There is a strong debate going on worldwide centering on the claim y some researchers that having six small meals a day is actually better for your metabolism than having three large meals. The idea is to spread out the daily calorie intake over six meals would actually help the body to burn more calories in the long run. According to these scientists, people should eat within an hour of waking from sleep and thereafter eat every three hours but the last meal should be taken at least three hours before bed time.

The strict eating regime mentioned above is directed towards decreasing your appetite but at the same time increases BMR and energy levels. Though there are experts who have always said that skipping meals and eating at irregular hours is not the healthy way to diet control, opinions do differ however when it comes to the decision of having three large meals or six smaller meals.

One school of thought believes that when we have food at regular intervals the body does not feel the necessity to store the calories. But there is no real data to support this theory. Some researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine have always maintained there is no concrete evidence to prove that either three meals a day or six meals a day is the correct approach for losing weight. The emphasis is actually on reducing the calorie intake either by reducing the frequency of the meals or by decreasing the size of the meal.

Nutrition experts have always said that ‘three’ meals or ‘six’ meals is not the sole criterion for diet control. The onus should be on the amount of calories spent in comparison with the total amount of calories spent in activities per day.

So taking this in view we can safely say that the main objective is to burn more calories in one single day compared to the amount of calories that we consume per day. And also a dietary pattern is not responsible for increasing the BMR rate, only exercise consistently increases the BMR rate. The diet plan cannot be the same for everyone.
