Berliner Dom Travel Guide, Entry Fees & Opening Hours

By

The Berliner Dom is definitely not one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. However, it is something I would advise that you should not miss.

It is located in Berlin. Also known as the “Protestant St. Peter’s“, Berliner Dom is an alluring basilica.

The Baroque structure that you see these days was made in the year 1905. For me the tour here was worth taking a chance.

One of the most fascinating features of this basilica is the pipe organ. It was first constructed in the early 19 century and has used around 7000 pipes. The structure that you see today was planned and built again by a renowned architect, Wilhelm Sauer.

This church acts as the burial place, for the several members of the Hohenzollern family. Friedrich I and his wife are resting in peace here. They entombed within the spectacularly sculpted sarcophagi. Here the oldest tomb is the magnificent tomb of Johann Cicero, the elector of Brandenburg.

This tomb was built in early 15th century.  The main altar of this cathedral was at first constructed in the year 1850. The nativity scenes that you see on the stained glass windows were created by Anton von Werner in the year 1905.

The dome of this church is used for organizing several concerts and readings. Here you can enjoy the official guided tours that are extremely useful, if you want to know a little more about the history of Berliner Dom. Entrance here is charged and includes the auto-guides, which are available in numerous languages.

Opening hours:

Given below are the opening hours of Berliner Dom:

It is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, on Sundays and all holidays it opens after noon from 12 p.m. and is closed down by 8 p.m.

The visits here are closed down for the public from 7 p.m. during the winter months, which last from October to March.

Entrance fees:

Generally €5 is charged for as the entrance fees for the students and also the retirees. An amount of €8 is charged to all the adults visiting the basilica and they are provided with an audio guide.
