Republic Cyprus, an island following a war in 1974 Turkish troops invaded the north and Cyprus and divided into two parts, the northern two-fifth is now called the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the south is controlled by Greek speaking Cypriots. In 2008 the area was declared unified.

At Nicosia, there are innumerable sites of historical significance. The walled old city lies, has trio gates and 10 bastions. The ancient Omeriye mosque, Archbishop Palace, Churches,  and museum like Folk Art Museum, Cyprus Museum, Byzantine Museum, etc tell a lot of the cultural foundation of the land. Highest elevation is Olympus at 1,951 m.

Climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, moist winters. Cyprus is a mainly agricultural country and three-fifth of the land is cultivated.  Many tourists from northern Europe visit the country’s picturesque towns and excellent beaches such as at Fiti on west coast. At Limassol, is a castle perched on a hill and Archeological Museum. Fikardou is a rural museum with about 40 homes preserved as they were in the past. The homes have red-tile top, stone, brick, mud wall and depict the 18th century style. The city of Geroskipou has 9th century Agia Paraskevi church with five domes.

Traditional local items made from ceramics, baskets are sold here as souvenir. For Troodos painted churches visit Kakopetria. Stone Age tombs are at Kalavassos as you enjoy horse ride or biking in the open country. A land which speaks with proof of our historical evolution is very intresting.
