Saccharin is about 200 to 700 times sweeter than sugar. Aspartame tastes 200 times sweeter than sugar. Acesulfame-K is 200 times sweeter and cannot be metabilised by the human body. Sucralose is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar. Neotame is extremely sweet in taste, about 7,000 to 13,000 times more than sugar. Splenda is a very popular sugar substitute brand. It is essentially a sucralose sweetener, manufactured by chlorination of natural sugar. The chlorine added makes it difficult for the body to use this sugar and it is discarded by our metabolic activities. It is about 600 times sweeter than natural sugar and also does not contain any extra calories.

Another commonly used sugar substitute Aspartame is used in the popular brand of Nutrasweet. It is an artificial sugar substitute, derived from protein molecules found in meat and dairy products. It is also 200 times sweeter than sugar and contains close to zero calories.

Sweet’n Low is manufactured from dextrose and saccharin. Both the ingredients used are natural. Saccharin is about 500 times sweeter than natural sugar. Also, it does not add any extra calories after consumption as it is not digested by the body.
