The highest paying jobs for women don’t always line up with the best jobs for men. The latest information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that women earn 81.6% of every dollar men do, and often in very different fields.

Check out this list of the highest paying jobs for women to see if one of them might be right for you.

1. Pharmacist

Pharmacists handle all drugs proscribed by physicians and give them to patients. Interestingly, female pharmacists earn more on average than most female doctors with a mean annual salary close to $99,000.

A post-graduate pharmacy degree is now standard for most jobs, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy reported that a four-year program could cost about $63,000 to $122,000 depending on whether you attended a public or private institution.

2. Lawyer

Female lawyers make about $85,000 per year on average. While this is one of the highest paying jobs for women, the average student leaves with over $100,000 in debt from law school.

3. Computer and Information Systems Manager

Computer and info systems managers plan and coordinate activities in the computer science and technology fields and make a little over $80,000 per year which is about 82% of what men make in similar positions.

A bachelor’s degree is required for most computer and information system manager positions. You can pick up a bachelor’s degree for an average of $30,000 for four years at a public school and over triple that at a private one.

4. Medical Professional

Though they are the top earning careers for men, female physicians and surgeons are fourth on our list of the highest paying jobs for women. Their mean annual salary is about $79,500.

It costs about $145,000 to earn a medical degree and takes an average of four years of residency on top of the eight years of schooling.

5. Chief Executive

Female CEOs head just under 4% of Fortune 500 companies. Their income is also much less than their male counterparts, but their average salary per year still comes out to about $76,000, so it’s definitely one of the highest paying jobs for women.

Being a CEO is all about experience, networking, and skill. Although many famous CEOs do not have any college degree, it is worth noting that all female CEOs in the Fortune 500 in 2012 have one, and most have graduate degrees.

6. Nurse Practitioner

Nurse practitioners work with patients and use their histories and symptoms to figure out patient diagnoses. Average yearly salary is about $74,500 for women.

7. Software Developer

Software developers design and test software made for all fields and applications including the medical field, government, military, and both private and public business sectors. Female software developers earn about $72,000 per year.

Software developers usually have a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Graduate degrees can be obtained but are usually unnecessary in finding jobs. The only exception is teaching, as professors in computer science typically hold doctoral degrees.
