4. University of Illinois: $14,428 (resident), $28,570 (non-resident)

The University of Illinois is consistently ranked as one of the top accounting schools for undergrads. Much of its popularity comes from the school’s reputation for getting grads hired; the university was ranked fifth by recruiters in a The Wall Street Journal/Harris Interactive survey in 2005 and 2006 when asked which MBA programs excel in the accountancy discipline.

3. University of Texas: $9,792 (resident), $33,060 (non-resident)

As another top-ranked accounting school, the University of Texas offers students great services, including an Advisory Council staffed with accountants with real-world experience. In addition, the accounting program has excellent research opportunities in areas like taxation and financial reporting.

2. University of Houston: $9,211 (resident), $18,601 (non-resident)

Part of what makes the University of Houston such a popular college for accounting is the fact that it offers a specialization certificate in Oil and Gas for students who are getting their bachelor’s degree in accounting. This allows graduates better access to jobs in the oil and gas industry, which is booming in Texas. In fact, University of Houston students are the most highly recruited by large, local public accounting firms compared to all other Houston business schools.

1. University of Central Florida: $5,584 (resident), $21,063 (non-resident)

Students at the University of Central Florida (UCF) can become a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Management Accountant through the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting. This specialized school also offers a wide range of scholarships to students that range from hundreds to thousands of dollars per year. Additionally, UCF has one of the more affordable college programs for those who live in-state with tuition at just over $5,500 a year.
