Utah Financial Aid

Many of Utah’s 100 trade schools, community colleges, 4-year colleges and universities and graduate schools are located in the state’s capital, Salt Lake City, where the majority of Utahans reside. Many of the top Western US colleges are located within Utah, including Southern Utah University, Utah Valley State College, University of Utah – Salt Lake City and Utah State University. Regardless of whether a student attends one of the previous prestigious schools or any of the other colleges and universities in Utah, there are numerous opportunities for financial assistance including scholarships, grants and student loans.

Utah Scholarships and Grants

Utah scholarships and grants are an important part of the educational landscape for Utah students. Use the Campus Explorer Scholarship Search to find scholarships in Utah that will help you get the education you need.

The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority administers several scholarships available to Utah residents. These scholarships may be based off of merit or financial need and may be used toward any postsecondary institution in Utah. Scholarships offered by Utah include:

  1. New Century Scholarship: To obtain eligibility, students must be pursuing a bachelors degree at the University of Utah, Weber State University, Southern Utah University, Utah State University, Utah Valley University or Dixie State College, Brigham Young University – Provo or Westminster College.
  2. Regents Scholarship: This scholarship program offers three separate awards to students who complete the Utah Scholars Core Course of Study at any point during high school. The student may only attend the same colleges that offer the New Century Scholarship, in addition to LDS Business College.
  3. Centennial Scholarship: for Early Graduation: Student who graduate early and attend an eligible Utah college or university within one year after graduation are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship may be renewed each year the student is in college.
  4. T H Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program (TILP): This loan pays for the full costs of tuition and fees to students pursuing an education degree. Students do not have to repay the loan amount if they become certified and then teach in a hard-to-staff school. One year of teaching is equivalent to two years of receiving the loan.
  5. Western Undergraduate Exchange: Offered to students in western states in America are eligible to receive aid opportunity that reduces the rate of tuition. Additional eligibility requirements are determined on a school-to-school basis. There is a limited amount of funding, so students are strongly encouraged to apply early.

Scholarships from Utah Colleges and Universities

Colleges and universities in Utah also offer scholarships to enrolled students. These scholarships may be based on merit, financial need, special talent, ethnicity, a combination or other criteria. Some schools offer a common application so that they may determine which scholarships students are eligible for. At other colleges, there is a separate application for each scholarship.

There may be a greater amount of scholarships, grants and other financial aid at Utah colleges and universities located in a city with a greater amount of colleges. The top five cities with the greatest number of colleges and universities in Utah include Salt Lake City, Provo, Layton, Logan and Ogden.

Other Scholarships in Utah

  1. Utah Dietetic Association Scholarship: Three $1,000 scholarships are offered to students pursuing dietetic degree program in Utah.
  2. Just For Youth Scholarship: Students who were in the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) foster care after the age of 14 or adopted after age 16 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The student must also be enrolled in a select number of colleges, including the University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College, Utah Valley University, Weber State University, Ogden Weber ATC (OWATC), College of Eastern Utah (CEU), or Southern Utah University (SUU).
  3. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Utah Youth Activist Scholarship Program: Awarded to Utah students who demonstrate civil liberties activism. In order to receive be considered for the program the students must write a 1,000 word essay on civil liberties.
  4. Utah Alarm Association Scholarships: Student must be graduating seniors who have a parent who is employed for a fire department, police department, or member company of the association.
