Financial aid in Indiana is not difficult to find. There are many scholarship, grants and loans available to students residing in the state. Students enrolled at Indiana colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools are eligible to apply for financial assistance. Although scholarships require more time for the application process than student loans, it is worth the effort as scholarships are free money that does not have to be repaid.

Learn More Indiana is a Website devoted to promoting education and helping people obtain careers. Located on that site is a list of Indiana state scholarships offered by the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana. Here is a list of all scholarships offered by the state of Indiana:

  1. Hoosier Scholar Award: Students in the top 20% of their high school graduating class, who are Indiana residents and are attending an accredited Indiana high school are eligible for this scholarship. They also must be planning to attend an eligible Indiana college or university.
  2. Nursing Scholarship Fund: Qualified students are those who have been admitted to an approved postsecondary institution and agree, in writing, that they will work in Indiana as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse for the first two years after graduation.
  3. Minority Teacher/Special Services Scholarship: African-American and Hispanic students in pursuit of teaching certification or any student regardless of race seeking a Special Education teaching certification, or Occupational or Physical Therapy certification who plan on teaching in Indiana are eligible to receive up to $4,000 towards their tuition.
  4. Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships Program: A state-administered, federally funded program that recognizes students with outstanding academic achievement. The award amount is determined by several factors level of financial need.
  5. Indiana National Guard Supplement Grant: Eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard are qualified to apply for this grant that covers up to 100% of specific tuition costs. This grant only applied to Fall and Spring semesters.
  6. Child of Veteran and Public Safety Officer Supplemental Grant Program: Children and spouses of disabled Indiana veterans, members of the Indiana National Guard killed while serving the state in active duty, and certain Indiana public safety officers killed in the line of duty may apply to this grant, which pays 100% of tuition. Scholarships from Indiana Colleges and Universities

Indiana colleges and universities also offer scholarships to cover the costs of tuition and fees, books, materials and housing. These scholarships only apply to students currently attending the institution, but are usually not limited to residents of Indiana. Scholarships coming from universities and colleges are determined based on need, merit, ethnic status and athletic ability. For example, Indiana Tech offers the Engineering Scholarship is open to students seeking a bachelor’s degree in engineering who meet the academic standards. At the Ivy Tech Community College of Central Indiana, the Bright Ideas in Broadripple Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. For this scholarship, preference is given to students who are also single parents. Indiana University (IU) has the Indiana University Foundation, which offers over 180 scholarships to IU students each year.

Deciding which city you want to attend college is just as important as figuring out which state you want to live in. Depending on which Indiana city you live in, you may be able to find more scholarships. In addition, cities that are more heavily populated with colleges may be able to have more scholarships available to students. Community foundations are the next place that students should look for scholarships because they are usually scholarships only awarded to residents of Indiana.   1. ISA Construction Career Scholarship: Students planning to attend a construction certificate. After receiving this award, the student must go on to enter an accredited trade school, 2-year or 4-year college or university.
  2. Central Indiana Community Foundation: A database of scholarships available to students from Marion County and Hamilton County in Indiana.
  3. Linda Craig Memorial Scholarship: Eligible students are attending an Indiana college or university and are pursuing a degree in medicine, sports medicine, physical therapy and related disciplines.
  4. Indiana Engineering Scholarships: The Indiana Society of Professional Engineers offers 10 separate scholarships to high school students, college students and graduate students attending school in Indiana.
  5. Indiana Broadcasters Foundation Academic Scholarships: This foundation offers two scholarships to its members. The Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA) High School Senior Scholarship Program is open to second semester seniors at an Indiana High School who demonstrate an active interest in broadcasting and are planning to attend a Indiana college or university. The IBA College Scholarship Program is for members of IBA who actively participate in a college broadcast facility.

Indiana Secondary Market for Education Loans, Inc (ISM) helps students obtain a college degree or certificate by aiding them in understanding the student loan process. However, the Indiana Student Loan Network generates a list of federal, state and private student loans available to students from each Indiana college, university, trade school or community college.
