The National Society of Accountants (NSA) has developed the NSA Scholarship Foundation to provide financial support for students working towards their accounting degree.

Accountants are naturally great with numbers, but this doesn’t mean they have an easy time paying for school. When it comes to paying tuition, even lots of saving and number crunching won’t necessarily cover all your costs. Fortunately, there are many great accounting scholarships that can help you reach your goal of earning your degree in accounting.

1. Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

Government finance is one of the many career options open to accounting students. If this is the path you hope to pursue, then apply for the Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship.

Amount: $5,000 and an invitation to attend the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) annual conference in San Francisco to receive their award (with travel paid for by the GFOA)

Eligibility Requirements: Undergraduate juniors who are preparing for a career in state or local government finance

Application deadline: April 30

2. TACTYC Scholarship

Many students who need help paying for college get a two-year degree or begin their studies at a community college to save money. The Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges (TACTYC) has a great scholarship program to benefit these students. The group gives out seven total scholarships.

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility Requirements: Five scholarships awarded to accounting students graduating from a two-year college and transferring to a four-year institution, and two scholarships for accounting students currently pursuing a two-year accounting degree

Application deadline: March 1

3. AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship

Looking to become a CPA one day? The AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship is the perfect opportunity to help fund your education. Given by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the scholarship program includes up to 10 awards of $2,500 each per year.

Amount: $2,500 that is sent to your school to be credited toward tuition payments

Eligibility Requirements: A student who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and future career interests in accounting and business

Application deadline: April 1

4. AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship

Another AICPA scholarship tops this list because it applies to a unique subset of students: those who are liberal arts and non-business degree holders who are going back to school to study accounting and get their CPA license. The AICPA Foundation set up the John L. Carey Scholarship to encourage students with little or no previous accounting education to consider a job in this field. This scholarship is awarded to 10 students each year.

Amount: $5,000

Eligibility Requirements: Liberal arts and non-business degree holders who are going back to school to study accounting and get their CPA license

Application deadline: April 1

5. NSA Scholarship Foundation Awards

The National Society of Accountants (NSA) has developed the NSA Scholarship Foundation to provide financial support for students working towards their accounting degree. This is one of the biggest scholarship funds for future accountants, with over 30 students being awarded each year. Amount: $500 to $2,000

Eligibility Requirements: Must be a student enrolled as an undergraduate at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.

Application deadline: March 10
