While I was not looking forward to attending this university for personal reasons, it has surpassed my expectations in the most favorable ways possible. The campus is well-constructed; and also beautiful. The faculty is incredibly welcoming and helpful in achieving what is necessary for you to fulfill your potential at UMBC.
Academics
All of my professors were extremely approachable and involved in providing multiple opportunities for students to ask them for help. Office hours were plentiful and their assistance was incredibly helpful. Depending on the class, the classwork could build up to quite a lot along with the class size. But, I thought it was manageable. Also, there was an extensive catalog of classes to choose from- even for people constricted by curriculum requirements.
College Life
There aren't a large number of clubs and organizations, but I enjoyed the ones that I did join. In addition, the campus is extremely safe and I have never felt safer in any environment. The school usually has activities set up for weekends and fun trips to keep the students communicating and growing as a community.

This school is amazing. I've met so many good friends, the academics are great, all the professors truly want to help you. It feels safe and like a close knit community. It's small enough that it doesn't feel overwhelming, but big enough that you don't feel like you see the same people every day.
Academics
It's a tough school but it's doable. Class sizes are good, in the humanities at least. The humanities is a pretty small department so there aren't very many people in the classes. The professors really do care about what they're teaching though.
College Life
Campus is a bit empty on weekends, but I like it that way. During the weekdays there's plenty to do and a ton of people around. The clubs are all easily accessible and always looking for more people. Campus feels safe at all times.

UMBC is a great school. The academics here are great. Mainly science majors attend UMBC, but there are a lot of people with other majors in the arts. Students should get involved on campus to meet new people and also find others with similar interests.
Academics
College is a lot of work. Most classes require a lot of outside of the class teaching beyond the inside of the class teaching. Professors can't always get everything done and explained in class, so if a student does not understand a concept there are many study groups and teaching assistants available to help. Professors are also helpful and friendly, so if a student needs help they are always welcome to go to their professor. 201110las Cinco Damas De Alekhine.html
College Life
There are a lot of people in Greek life and that is one of the best ways to get to know people. If you don't want to play a sport for a UMBC team there is always club, but there are not too many different club sports to join. There are also a few other clubs that go along with students majors.

UMBC was a great school. The academics are superb. I did not live on campus and worked part time while taking classes. I wish I would have experience more of the social side of college within the school. I graduated a long while ago and I know that everything has improved since I graduated (the campus, the sport etc).I would highly recommend this school.
Academics
I went to school 3 days per week and worked the other 2 days. I was a Sociology major and took the majority of my basic classes at Catonsville Community College before I came to UMBC where I took the classes needed to get my Bachelor's degree. Most of the classes were very reasonble in size which I enjoyed and the workload was also reasonable but at the same time challenging.
College Life
I did not participate very much in the student life or campus activities since I lived off campus and worked two days a week while going to school the other three days. I do not have enough information to be able to comment on this and therefore will not.
