About LMU

The Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, is a Catholic university that provides rigorous undergraduate, graduate and professional programs to academically ambitious students dedicated to study, research, creative work and community involvement.

The school is affiliated with the Jesuit and Marymount religious traditions. Student life is informed by this heritage. The school’s campus ministries and Society of Jesuits, Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary and Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange groups provide many spiritual life opportunities whether you want to take part in a ceremony or actively engage with the community.

If you’re not volunteering with the school’s many community organizations, you can join one of more than 140 student clubs or the Greek community with 15 local chapters. The Division of Student Affairs makes sure that exciting and enriching campus events are always available, like the Centennial Family Weekend, open mic nights, guest speakers and more.

Academics include more than 55 undergraduate majors, 55 minors, 35 master’s degrees, 13 credential programs and one doctoral degree. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in fields like the liberal arts, science and engineering, business administration, communication and fine arts and more. Graduate programs are available from Marital and Family Therapy to Civil Engineering.

Admissions are determined by an applicant’s writing ability, engagement in extracurricular and community service activities, recommendations, standardized test scores and relationship to the university. Arts, Animation, Dance, Theatre and Music students must submit a portfolio and arrange an audition.

Students who file a FAFSA by February 1 of the prior academic year will be considered to receive financial aid through many institutional scholarships, state and federal grants, loans and veteran’s benefits.

Overall Rating

LMU definitely has a lot of opportunities to get involved in multiple different areas. There are tons of opportunities for service as well as a solid Campus Ministry that really emphasizes interfaith dialogue. The class sizes are small and allow you to get to know your classmates and professors very well. I would highly recommend LMU for anyone who is interested in the Jesuit ideal of an education for the whole person, but warn those who want a large school feel. There are times when LMU can feel like a big high school. You do constantly meet new people, but there are times when you keep seeing the same faces and you may know things about people before you meet them.

Overall Rating

LMU has been the best decision I made when it comes to my education. The university is big enough for me to come across new faces every day yet small enough for me to feel as if it is my home. The people here are extremely friendly and welcoming. I can tell that LMU strives to meet student expectations and provide for them resources for individuals to be educated of the whole person. I wish that I don't have to leave, I love this school too much.
