About SVCC
While some colleges might tout their large enrollment numbers, Southside Virginia Community College claims that its small size gives its students an advantage. SVCC believes that its small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratio allow its students a better chance at success in earning their associate’s degree.
You might think that a small, intimate college like SVCC would be less accessible than a large university, but there are actually eight different sites across Virginia that offer classes. Students near Alberta, Blackstone, Chase City, Cumberland, Emporia, Keysville, South Boston and South Hill can all find Southside Virginia Community College locations near them.
A two-year school, SVCC offers a selection of associate’s degrees with some geared toward a transfer to a four-year university, and others designed to prepare students for a career after graduation. SVCC also offers more than 30 career certificates in the following academic programs:
• Emergency Medical Services (Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic)
• Fire Science Technology
• Gaming Technology
• Cosmetology and Barbering
• Private Investigator
• Phlebotomy
• Law Enforcement
• And many more
Southside Virginia Community College has a number of transfer agreements with four-year universities like Virginia Tech, Virginia Commonwealth, University of Virginia and others, and counselors are available to help you with the transfer process.
