About Brown University

Historically, one of the nation’s most prestigious schools and one of few with an Ivy League distinction, Brown University offers some of the most challenging academics you can find at an American university, delivered by award-winning faculty.

Brown’s campus environment is equally stimulating, providing intellectual, social and creative activities that challenge and inspire.

Archaeology, Egyptology, International Studies, Music, Neuroscience, Public Policy and Visual Arts are just some of the disciplines in which you can earn a bachelor’s degree and, in some cases, even a master’s degree at Brown.

At the graduate level you can pursue a medical degree, an engineering degree, get an MFA in Creative Writing or Acting or a doctorate in Italian Studies, just to name a few.

Campus life is just as much a part of the Brown experience as the classroom. In addition to numerous research opportunities, students may attend a writer’s symposium, join an activist organization, perform in a number of music ensembles or theatre productions, participate in over 300 student organizations or get involved with one of Brown’s 16 literary, scholarly and other publications.

The city of Providence, Rhode Island, is also a great source of cultural, intellectual and social activity with several respected universities just down the road, as well as museums, theatres, restaurants and a diverse city culture.

Admission to Brown is highly competitive, with only a small percentage of students being accepted yearly. However, while Brown does consider academic performance, they also take other factors such as talents, accomplishments and extracurricular involvement into strong consideration.

Financial aid is awarded to eligible students through scholarships and loans at the undergraduate level and possible assistantships and fellowships at the graduate level.
