About The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, San Diego

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising’s (FIDM) campus in San Diego is a private, specialized college that teaches, trains, and prepares students for global careers in fashion, entertainment, visual arts, and interior design.

FIDM is nationally accredited by the NASAD, the most prestigious U.S. accreditation in the industry. The school was founded in 1969 in Los Angeles, and the San Diego campus opened in 1985.

Academics at FIDM consist of at least 20 majors in the fashion and art industries. Associate’s degrees are available, as is at least one bachelor’s degree. The curriculum is updated often through suggestions from top industry professionals to ensure students receive a current and relevant education.

FIDM utilizes a rolling admissions policy, starting new classes each quarter. Enrollment is competitive, and the process consists of speaking to an admissions advisor, submitting your transcripts, submitting at least three letters of recommendation, submitting an admissions essay, and completing a portfolio and entrance project. The application and the above requirements should be submitted along with the applicable application fee which is based on residency.

Financial aid is available to qualifying students as needed, and the school itself offers a scholarship competition to high school students and graduates.
