About Gonzaga University

A high-ranking school, Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, offers an education that is governed by the Catholic philosophy of cura personalis, which translates as education of the whole person.

Students do more than just read books and write papers. They engage in creative activities, contemplation and recreation, examine the relationships between science and art, and participate in social and religious activities.

Law and Business Schools and Engineering and Applied Science programs are particularly well known and respected.

Academics at Gonzaga are also administered through the schools of:

  • Arts and Sciences
  • Education
  • Professional Studies

Just like Gonzaga’s classes, college life is designed to nurture students creatively, socially and spiritually. Extracurricular activities include spiritual services, retreats and organizations, community service and volunteer opportunities, student clubs and approximately half a dozen student publications.

Admissions require SAT or ACT scores, transcripts and a letter of recommendation along with the application, which has a fee. Those who cannot afford the application fee may ask for a fee waiver. Those with a GPA below 3.1 or who have an SAT score below 1070 will need to have an interview as well.

In addition to federal financial aid programs like loans and work-study, Gonzaga awards a number of academic scholarships. Eligible students may also receive multiple aid awards, such as a combination of loans and scholarships.

Former Student - Last Attended 1986

Overall Rating

I attended GU for three semesters beginning in the Fall of 1986 as a freshman. I decided on GU because of their excellent radio and television program and an awesome campus visit my dad took me on summer between my junior and senior year of high school. I had an awesome freshman year surviving Spokane's long winter with no problems, making new friends and whooping it up with a buddy from high school who also enrolled at GU. It's a beautiful campus when not covered in snow and ice. Spokane is a big city if you're moving there from Central Washington but quickly became a remote outpost if you're from a city like San Francisco or Los Angeles. By mid winter in my sophomore year, the novelty of GU and Spokane had worn completely off. Even their great communications program and a Bull Dogs winning season couldn't keep me engaged.
