Overall

Messiah college is an awesome college to receive a christian education from where professors care personally about each individual student. Academics were important to me when looking for a school to attend and now after being at Messiah I am definitely pleased with the teachers here and the rigorous academic courses. When first considering Messiah I was concerned that it might be too small for me but I have found that Messiah is the perfect size. I am constantly meeting new people and don't feel closed in here. I love the teachers and the students here more than I could have ever imagined. The teachers pray before classes and take a personal interest in each student. I have made unbelievably great friends here so far and can't wait to continue to make more! Although in a more remote area, there is plenty to do on and around campus. Messiah's Student Activities Board (SAB) is great with putting together fun off campus activities such as trips to New York for Broadway shows or trips to Washington DC for sports games. Make sure to get involved on campus and don't let wasted time slip by!

Academics

Messiah has a wide range of class options and multiple different study abroad programs. Class sizes are typically no more than 30 students with a teacher who is very engaged in the class as a whole and as individuals. The workload is overwhelming the first couple weeks of school but once you find yourself in a rhythm it's easier to manage your time and the work seems to become less. I would never say my workload was too unbearable but definitely pushed me.

College Life

There's always a lot going on around campus. Soccer is really big in the fall and into the winter as Messiah's men soccer team won their 10th National title this past season! There are always sports games going on that you can watch and cheer on! Sports are a pretty big deal here. There are tons of clubs and organizations on campus that fit everyone's needs! There are clubs for specific majors and then other fun clubs to get involved in! I have always felt safe on campus and public safety does a good job of keeping it that way. That's another added bonus of going to a smaller school, it feels more safe. As I mentioned earlier, Messiah's Student Activities Board is always planning fun activities on and off campus. They plan trips to places such as New York and Washington DC as well as hosting events on campus such as concerts from artists like Mat Kearney and Need to Breathe.

Overall

I love the atmosphere of Messiah College! People are friendly, faculty are wonderful, and I love it here. There are tons of activities and clubs and volunteer opportunities. If you take advantage of what's available, you'll do well here. But they don't search you out- you have to find them.

Academics

As a Biomedical engineering major, I have quite a few difficult classes and lots of work. The faculty are fantastic, though, and are so helpful. Plus, it's not just busy work - everything we do is relevant and I feel like it really is worth while.

College Life

Generally a friendly place. It feels safe, I never worry about being out late. The soccer team games are super fun, though there isn't a football team. If you don't have a car it can get a little claustrophobic but there are options if you seek them out.

Overall

I really enjoyed the first year dorm experience. I have grown close with most of the guys on the floor and still keep in contact with them. The regular common chapels are also special community building times.

Academics

I have felt challenged at Messiah. Their study abroad program allows anyone to leave fair PA for a bit and explore the world. Some people have gone abroad for as many as 3 semesters though most go for 1.

College Life

I enjoy the small feel of the campus. I know most of the people in my class and many from the years before me and after. The club athetics are especially good at Messiah because there are so many options at different levels of competition.

Overall

Overall, my experience at Messiah was positive. I encountered many great professors and made lifelong friends. I feel like I got a high quality education. On the downside, the school's reputation (outside of Christian circles) is more regional and it lacks a strong alumni network.

Academics

Messiah is academically strong. The professors are engaged and available for students, probably moreso than at a larger research-focused university. The workload varies from major to major but is manageable for most students, leaving plenty of time for other pursuits. Overall, the school's academic focus is probably the strongest aspects. The general education curriculum is challenging and reflects the school's unique anabaptist heritage. You will be challenged intellectually, religiously and socially.

College Life

Messiah's campus is located in an idyllic setting in rural Central Pennsylvania. Night life is limited, especially given the school's policy of no alcohol (even off-campus). Many students will find their way to local bars but normal partying is done quietly. Most students live on campus, which provides for a rich social atmosphere. The school is known for hosting quality movies and concerts that you might not expect at a small Christian school.

Overall

I am a prospective student. My impressions from my two campus visits are as follows. Everyone is friendly and speaks or waves at you in passing. Everyone very helpful. Students receive a lot of help from professors and other staff. Current students are friendly and are willing to answer questions from visiting people. I did not get the impression that they were forced to act that way.

Academics

Multiple choices for majors. Class size small enough to glean individual help if needed. Professors available outside class hours. Professors genuinely seem interested in helping students succeed. Oppurtunities exist to study abroad. Another oppurtunity exists to study at their sister campus in philly.

College Life

Many clubs to choose from. Old Main has numerous service oppurtunities to choose from. Oppurtunities exist for a few hours, a few days, or even as long as several weeks. Athletic program very strong. Many championships won. Intramural sports abound as well.

Overall

Messiah College is a beautiful campus and a wonderful school. Being an accepted student, i cannot wait to attend in the fall of 2013. I liked the caring atmosphere the school had to offer the most. When i entered my student preview day i knew right away that Messiah really cared about its students and staff. The professors and ministry staff are always there to take questions and help students whenever they need it. Messiah also has an amazing study abroad program, and i was so interested in all the countries and even states that i can visit and help while i attend for my four years. Tips that i have for prospective students would be that if they are really strong in their Christian faith and they love to help and care for people, Messiah is definitely a great choice.

Academics

Messiah has a wonderful academic basis. The class size is around 15 to 25 students a class and sometimes smaller than that, which is a great because students can get to know the professor easily. Messiahs professors care about their students and care about how well they do in their classes. I know when i went to preview the school for the nursing program, the professors were welcoming and told me to always come to them if I needed help in my studies. The workload at Messiah is heavy yet manageable, this is needed for college programs because professions are learned to the best they can be learned. There are many classes and programs at Messiah College, which include anything from teachers and nurses to worship leaders and youth pastors. Since Messiah is a Christian college they have a variety of majors for all Christian students.

College Life

The college life at Messiah really is an amazing site to see. There is 24/7 campus safety for students which really is a relief to know. If a student is out studying at the library late, campus security is there to escort them to their dorm safely. The social atmosphere is great, students are really welcoming and friendly along with professors and staff. If a new student is lost or cannot find their way, upperclassmen and staff are their to help right away. Messiah is huge for basketball, swimming, and soccer and a few other sport which is nice for students who are interested in athletics. There are many organizations at Messiah College, student bible study groups are huge on campus along with sports groups and worship teams. Plus, a lot of students will get together and go and do community service and missions projects around the state. Also, Messiah has a lot of activities set up for each year of students so everyone can get to know each other at the beginning of the year. Weekend activities at Messiah include powerhouse, the coffee house, movie nights in the theater on campus, concerts on campus, dances, the rope course, canoeing, and just hanging out in the loft. There is so much to do at Messiah students are always busy and working hard.
