About SU

Syracuse University is a well-established private university in Syracuse, New York. Situated on a sprawling historical campus, Syracuse offers nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs and opportunities to participate in unique research projects.

Since its founding in the 19th century, Syracuse has had a reputation for quality academics. Today Syracuse boasts high rankings from publications like U.S. News and World Report.The academic divisions that have received particular recognition are:

In addition to these divisions, Syracuse is home to more than five other academic departments.

Syracuse is also recognized for its high research activity. Research is also unique in that it is interdisciplinary and uses different disciplines to solve a particular issue or problem. Areas of research include:

  • Gerontology, Health and Policy
  • Urban Education

Students who participate in one of these research projects are also eligible for a scholastic scholarship.

Student life options include performing arts activities and student organizations and clubs.

Freshmen applicants must submit an application, test scores and transcripts. The average GPA of admitted students is generally around 3.5, making admissions fairly competitive. SAT scores usually range from about 1600 to 1870.

In addition to research scholarships, Syracuse awards academic and other types of scholarships to help cover tuition costs. Need-based financial aid programs are also available and include loans and grants.

Syracuse is an awesome community to be involved in. Not just the campus itself, but the Syracuse community as a whole. It provides a gorgeous campus with lots of clubs and activities to get involved in for a variety of interests.

I really appreciate the orientation programs available at Syracuse University. My involvement in the L.O.O.P. Program this summer was a great experience and really gave me a jump start to making new friends as a transfer student at SU.
