About UCR
University of California Riverside, also known as UCR, is one of the smaller universities in the University of California system, a high-ranking state system with consistently high quality academics in numerous fields of study.
Located in the mid-sized city of Riverside, approximately 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, UCR is just large enough to offer vitality and diversity and just small enough to render a personalized atmosphere.
UC Riverside, which was ranked in the top tier of national universities by U.S. News and World Report, offers a total of over 170 bachelors, master’s and doctoral degrees in subject areas encompassing the arts, humanities, social science, engineering, natural sciences, business and education among others.
UCR also always continues to add new programs. For example, the MFA in Creative Writing and Writing for Performance, one of the only inter-genre writing programs in the country, was implemented several years ago.
UC Riverside also offers rich extracurricular activities. There is KUCR, the student-run radio station, numerous performing arts opportunities as well as many community service and academic and other types of organizations.
However, while UCR offers a rich and lively atmosphere, students can expect to receive extensive one-on-one attention from accessible professors in mostly small classes.
Since it is part of a state university system, California residents benefit from a lower tuition rate. For those who need assistance with tuition and fees there are graduate fellowships and assistantships, and loans, grants, work-study and scholarships are also available to those who qualify.

Jose Sanchez Student at This School - Grad Year 2016
Overall RatingOverall the college is wonderful. The atmosphere is very benevolent and the campus is very diverse. It is easy to make friends and get along with people as everyone is very sociable. My fondest memory thus far has to be when I started to get along with my hallmates. We were simply getting along in the lobby and playing "Cards Against Humanity". My tips for prospective students is to find a school that suits you and your major. Definetly make sure you have all your finances in check and remember to have fun moderately not excessively.

Overall RatingThe campus is absolutely amazing! The facilities are well-kept and they are constantly improving the school through new building projects. The campus seems park-like even though it is in the desert. My tour guide and the other students with the Campus Tours department were friendly and genuinely helpful at answering my questions. Since we were the only ones on the tour in the morning, my dad and I got a personalized tour on a golf cart, which was really cool!
