Student Ratings
Lillian Bockian Alumnus - Grad Year 2009
Academics Rating The Psychology department at Goucher College was insulting at best. The attitude in the Psychology Department is, "How do you feel?" not, "What do you know?" When I tried to expand my knowledge of psychological theories and general knowledge I was threatened by the Psychology department that they would expel me from the college. How am I supposed to enter graduate school with a high school Psychology AP student's level of knowledge (actually, they probably even know more than I do at this point)? The academic support center is not anything better than what you would encounter at any other school, including community colleges. I can not say that I am a better student after studying at Goucher College. I acquired my writing skills from my high school English AP teacher (the kind of teacher where earning an A really means something - I've only had one professor like that at Goucher College). I will never forget when I walked to class during midterms and overheard a student talk about acing her midterm/final while she was drunk. After this whole experience I can say that Goucher was in a way an insulting experience - one that has drained me and my mother several thousand dollars. If I could do it over again I would attend the local community college for two years then transfer to a state university or a more serious college than Goucher. Students walk to class barefoot, and the teachers more than allow it, even encourage it. Most of the theories I learned in class I already discussed with my father (an Ivy league graduate) in more depth than what we discussed in lecture. Biggest waste of money.
