About ECC

The comfort and personal attention of a small school, backed by the trusted name of the State University of New York (SUNY) system: that’s what you get when you enroll in Erie Community College.

The school’s South Campus is located in Orchard Park, New York, just south of Buffalo. If that location isn’t convenient for you, the school has other locations in Williamsville and in Buffalo.

Academics at the school offer two-year associate’s degrees and certificates. There are many majors to choose from across the following divisions:

  • Business and Public Service
  • Health Sciences
  • Liberal Arts
  • Engineering and Technologies

ECC has a number of transfer agreements with four-year universities throughout the state of New York so that students can easily transfer their credits from their associate’s degree and continue on to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Admissions will require a GED certificate or a high school transcript along with your application. Placement tests may also be necessary to determine which classes are right for you.

Financial aid at ECC is offered mostly through federal and state programs, which will most often require a FAFSA. Eligible students may qualify for grants and loans, or for other state-funded scholarships.

When I was researching colleges I wish there was more emphasis on transfer counselors and people at the college that are meant to help students find the right path. I have had an awful experience with student counselors both in high school and college. I have not received assistance as far as knowing that you have to update your FAFSA every year, or that you should take at least 15 credits a semester to graduate on time. There are many things a high school graduate would not even think about entering college. Erie Community South was great for me because I only live 15 minutes away and you could easily hold a job, as well as use their wonderful tutoring center. I lived in the Science tutoring room, especially when taking Organic Chemistry because Doreen is a very genius tutor and can explain Chemistry in an easier fashion. She was willing to go above and beyond to make me understand Organic Chemistry. I received an A and was so proud, although it did take so much dedication and time. A favorite experience of mine was when I was on the Track and Field team at ECC. The Coaches were excellent and would do anything for you to help you reach your goals. Their names were Coach Kibrek and Coach Tim and we went to nationals in Texas that year. Unfortunately due to monetary reasons, the track team was removed from the list of sports at ECC one year after I left ECC. That was a huge dissapointment for many, but all in all Erie Community College is a great school for people who are not exactly sure what they want to do yet or even for those who want to be close to home and hold a job.
