Kerri Duncan Alumnus - Grad Year 2005
Overall RatingI think all schools, outside of their categorization, are alike. They each have those professors who love their jobs and care for their students (which makes students love that particular professor and class.) I think of Howard Blanning, Linda Conaway, Mike Griffith, Dr. Bill Doan and Dr. Paul Jackson from the Department of Theatre. I loved them all. In their own way, they nurtured my talents as an actor; encouraged my amateur make-up artistry skills and challenged me to care about the work I did. And with the good comes the bad, right? Each school also has professors who are incompetent jerks who forget their students are young adults most likely either: away from home for the first time, are preparing to be incorporated into ‘the real world,’ or anything and everything in between. These professors are overcome by their false sense of authority and make it their life’s goal to make each impressionable young student who crosses their path as miserable as possible. Miami wasn’t any different in that aspect. My overall experience at Miami University was okay. I think I had the average experience. I went far away from home; stayed out late partying; stayed up all night cramming; and I event went on a trip for Spring Break once. I’m a little bitter now though. Not because of any particular situation I encountered at Miami but because I never should have gone. I simply could not afford to attend a private University. Financing your education is probably the single most important detail when it comes to your education. I would tell any student looking to go to school- MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO FUND YOUR EDUCATION!!!!!!!! I had a great time while I was there: I have fond memories, lots of pictures and I even still keep in contact with my fellow alumni. But was it worth the massive debt that I now owe? Absolutely not! I could have had the same, if not better experience attending a public school right here in California…STUDENT LOANS are evil! Stay away!!!!!!
Brian White Alumnus - Grad Year 2003
Overall RatingMiami University is a good school. The academics provided to the students is really good. The school lacks in diversity but overall is a great place for any student looking for a good school in the midwest. It does need help with career placement and campus housing as well.
