How To Predict Your Ovulation Days & Signs And Symptoms Of Ovulation » Ovulation: Predicting The PeriodOvulation is the process of a mature egg getting released from the ovary and entering the fallopian tube to be fertilized. If no conception happens then the lining of the uterus wall which thickens every month to prepare for the egg, sheds with blood during menstruation.

Normally only one egg is released and lives 12-24 hours after leaving the ovary. There are various ways and methods to track down your ovulation period to better help you in conceiving.

Ovulation analyzer kits: There are several kits available in the market which can help you in predicting the ovulation period correctly. These kits are very similar to home pregnancy test kits and like them, you need to put a few drops of urine first thing in the morning during the period when you are most likely to be ovulating (which is usually between day 12-14 of a 28 day cycle) The day when the color changes on the stick to a shade darker than usual is the most likely time for you to ovulate.

Body temperature: Another way to find the time of ovulation is to check your body temperature. This is called the basal body temperature and is gauged by placing a thermometer (basal body thermometer is the best) inside the anus each morning to see if the temperature has gone beyond the normal temperature of 96-98 degrees.

You need to maintain a chart to determine the pattern of body temperature to find the pattern. A rise in the temperature which persists for a couple of days will be the indication that ovulation has occurred.

Ultra sound: This method is usually used when you are facing persistent problems in conceiving and a gynecologist has recommended you an Ultrasound scan. This is usually in case where artificial insemination is required.

Other symptoms: In most cases, cervical fluid consistency can also be checked to determine the ovulation period. Cervical fluid, also called as white discharge which is of a slippery, sticky consistency and the color of egg white is released during your ovulation period.

Some women also feel abdominal pain in the right side of the abdomen, which is medically termed as Mittelschmerz, when the fertilized egg is released from the ovary. The pain differs from case to case and might last from a few minutes to a few hours.

Although the ovulation period can be checked and predicted by the above methods, there are several factors which might lead to non-ovulation during some cycles. Factors like stress, pollution, medicines, irregular food and sleep habits, hormonal imbalances, late marriages or conception may affect ovulation and it is best to consult a gynecologist when you decide to have a baby.
