People Are Yelling At Squirrels In Assassin's Creed Valhalla

In between leveling various characters in Shadowlands, I’m playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, my second favorite AC game (and a close close second at that) wherein I do things like conquer parts of England and also yell at squirrels. Well, I get into flyting contests with squirrels, which is a kind of Viking argument where we take turns insulting each other in rhyme. This is me as Odin up against Ratatosk the Squirrel god.

Yes, this really happens.

I want more rap battles with squirrels in WoW, I think. Considering that one of my favorite NPC’s this expansion is a squirrel, or at least a ghost that now looks like one, I feel like this should be doable.

ROXXII THE BELOVED, HOW WOULD YOU CHALLENGE RATATOSK TO A FLYTING?

Q4TQ: What the heck are the devourers and where do they come from? I feel like I am missing something massive in the storytelling and I’ve completed loremaster of Shadowlands.

That’s the kind of question a squirrel wouldn’t answer. But best I can tell, Devourers are from the In-Between, which is kind of like the Shadowlands version of the Twisting Nether — a chaotic realm suffused with weird energies and seething anima. Devourers are anima eaters, and it’s possible the Anima Drought has them starving and in a feeding frenzy, but as of right now we don’t know that much about them or why they’re suddenly so active in the Shadowlands.

SIBYLLE I THINK YOU AND RATATOSK MIGHT GET ALONG

Q4tQ: What do you do when a non-gamer asks you what you do in WoW, and it’s the expansion when your answer is basically: “Well, I’m talking to mushrooms a lot”?

Heck, not only am I playing Shadowlands with the talking mushrooms, I’m also playing Valhalla where I routinely go eat mushrooms and then chase seals around a bunch of gates or fight blue skinned giants that turn into mushrooms when they die. It’s a lot of mushrooms is what I’m saying.

MISTAH JAY, I SUSPECT RATATOSK WOULD USE YOUR OWN HUBRIS AGAINST YOU

Q4tQ: Is anyone using the Eternal Traveller transmog?

Whenever someone asks me a question like “Is anyone doing/thinking/other verbing X thing” my response is always some variation on probably.

I mean, there are a lot of people. Somebody almost certainly is using that set for their transmog, even if I’m not.

ENO IS INQUISITIVE, MUCH LIKE A SQUIRREL MIGHT BE

QftQ: Has there been any new information on what the new game studios that former Blizzard employees started are making as far as games?
Other than Frost Giant’s RTS, I read the article here about it.

Not really, because it often takes years for studios to get their first game off the ground. Bonfire Studios started up in 2016, and we still don’t know what game they’re making, and they’re headed up by Rob Pardo, former Chief Creative Officer at Blizzard and former lead designer on World of Warcraft. So the newer studios like Dreamhaven or Frost Giant are not likely to have news for a while yet.

MISTER RIK WOULD PROBABLY BE SURPRISED TO MEET A SQUIRREL PALADIN

Q4tQ: Since I don’t recall ever seeing it spelled out, what is the lore (if any) behind Dark Iron dwarf paladins? I don’t see the Dark Irons as being followers of the Church of the Holy Light before their reintegration into the larger dwarf society, nor do I see them flocking to the Church in large numbers in the short span of time (in-universe) since the reunification, as that is a process that would naturally take a long time.

So are DI paladins some of the few DIs who have “converted”, or are they more like tauren Sunwalkers, approaching the Holy Light from their own cultural direction?

There’s no listed order for Dark Iron Paladins. In fact, since the major point of contact between Dark Iron Dwarves and Bronzebeard or Wildhammer Dwarves is Moria Thaurissan, it’s quite possible she introduced the concept of serving the Holy Light to them after Dagran’s death.

We know that Dwarves in general learned about the Holy Light from Humans, although it’s a mistake to think they were part of the Church of the Holy Light — instead, they seemed to integrate the Light with their own common ideas about their ancestry from the Titans. Since we know that the Titanic Watcher Tyr was the means by which the people of Lordaeron learned of the Holy Light, and that the Dwarves came from Uldaman, the facility that Tyr’s friends Archaedas and Ironaya fled to with the Discs of Norgannon, it’s possible the Dark Irons are simply reclaiming their heritage.

At any rate there’s nothing currently in game saying that Dark Irons who become Paladins are members of any specific group or order. They could be part of the Silver Hand, but maybe they aren’t.

Seriously, a lot of squirrels and mushrooms in my current games.

Have fun, y’all. See you next week.
