Tasty Gourd Recipes


A gourd is a great source of natural minerals and fluid. These minerals help to control the body temperature and save you from summer heat. Again gourd is an ideal food for overweight people because it contain very low calorie. Apparently people dislike eating gourd because gourd itself is not very tasty but you have to make it tasty with tasty items.

Prawn Gourd

To make this item you need:
•    One gourd 1 kg.
•    Prawn (small in size) – 500 gms.
•    4 Onions
•    4 tablespoon sunflower oil
•    Coriander powder 2 table spoon
•    Salt
•    Black pepper powder
•    4 green chilies

To make the preparation first you have to peel off the gourd and grate it. Now shell prawns and clean them properly. Apply salt on prawns. Chop onion finely.

In a pan, heat oil and sauté the prawns. When they turn red, keep them aside. Then pour the remaining oil and fry the finely chopped onion. Fry till brown, add grated gourd and stir well. Add salt and coriander powder and keep stirring. Keep the lid on. Some water from gourd will come out. When the gourd gets tender take the lid off. Add the sautéed prawn with gourd. Stir well and make the whole preparation dry. Before removing from the heat, sprinkle black pepper powder on it.

The preparation is very tasty and you can eat it with steamed rice or bread.

Gourd can also become tasty if you make it with chicken.

Chicken Gourd

•    Boneless chicken small in size
•    Gourd 500 gms (peeled and cubed)
•    1 table spoon Onion paste
•    ½ tablespoon ginger paste
•    ½ table spoon garlic paste
•    ½ tablespoon aniseed paste
•    Salt
•    Olive oil
•    1 pinch saffron for color and fragrance
•    ½ cup milk

Soak saffron in milk. Pour oil in a pan and fry onion and garlic paste. Add chicken and stir well. Add salt and ginger. Keep stirring. After that add cubed gourd and aniseed paste. Again stir for 2-3 minutes. Put on the lid. Keep the lid on to make both chicken and gourd tender. When the gravy is ready, before removing the pan from fire add milk and saffron with it. Cook for 5 minutes more. Now the preparation is ready to be served with bread.
