Many people skip meals or eat less as the first step towards dieting. Staying hungry is not the solution for shedding the extra kilos. The art is to eat good but only the low – density foods which will have very low calories. These types of foods are high in water and fiber content and are very filling in nature.

Vegetables lead the pack in low – density foods and probably the only one worth mentioning. The most healthy and nutritious veggies include leafy greens, lettuce, tomatoes, melons and green beans. You can have them in curries or boiled. But if you still don’t like the taste then you can add them to stews and soups and then have them. They are very low in calories and will satiate your hunger immediately. During this period you need to avoid dry foods completely. Biscuits, crackers and chips are a strict no-no. These foods have a lot of calories and are extremely harmful.

Try to avoid cold drinks because these contain a high amount of sugar. Plain water is the best fluid that you can have. If you don’t like water because of its bland taste then you can go for herbal teas or sparkling mineral waters. While on diet you should not lose out on the necessary proteins. The healthy foods that will give you enough proteins are lean red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, beans and soya. Proteins help you to remain full for a long time thereby curtailing your actual food consumption.

Wholegrain during dieting is an absolute must. The breads and cereals that you take in regularly should have wholegrain in good amount. For dinner you can have vegetable soups or supplement your dinner menu with a garden salad with a low – fat dressing. What do you usually have for snacks in the evening? Forget those high calorie pastries, tarts and chicken envelopes for the time being and much on the fresh fruits. They contain lots of water and will keep your skin fresh and glowing. If you feel hungry this is the most economical and healthy way to fill your stomach.
