Vitamins are essential for the proper growth and development of kids. Vitamins are necessary for carrying out the normal functioning of organs, tissues, bones etc. They also plays a major role in strengthening the immune system of the body which in turn protects the body from bacteria, fungus, viruses, parasites etc. Hence kids need vitamins to keep their body healthy and functional. Here are some of the vitamins required for the well being of the children.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is essential for keeping the eyes healthy. Vitamin A is also necessary for the proper growth of the bones and also to fortify the immune system. Foods that are rich in vitamin A includes liver, milk, spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes, squash etc. Kids between the age of 1 to 3 requires 300 mg of vitamin A per day while those between 4 to 8 needs 400 mg and those between 9 to 13 wants 600 mg of protein per day.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps your kid to prevent the happening of common cold. It also helps the kid to heel the wounds and prevent scurvy. Vitamin C is abundantly present in tomatoes, strawberries, citrus fruits, broccoli etc. Kids between 1 to 3 years require 15 mg vitamin C and those between 4 to 8 years need 25 mg per day. Children between 9 to 13 years needs 45 mg vitamin C per day.

Vitamin D

Kids between age 1 to 13 years require 5 mcg. Vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium and phosphorus and thus strengthen the bones. Body will synthesis vitamin D when exposed to sunlight and you need to give your kid vitamin D fortified foods.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps to metabolize fats in the body and also protects the cell membrane. Children between 1 to 3 years needs 6 mg daily and those between 4 to 8 wants 7 mg per day. Kids of 9 to 13 years needs 11 mg daily.

Vitamin K

It helps in coagulating the blood. Kids of 1 to 3 years requires 15 mcg vitamin K per day. Children of 4 to 8 years needs 25 mcg and those between 9 to 13 wants 40 mcg per day.

Kids also require B complex vitamins for meeting their energy requirement and also keep their eye, brain, skin, nerves etc in healthy condition.
